The REEL Canada Film Festival,for the first time, took place at Sheppard Grande.
Our media classes along with the grade 12 English classes had the privelliage of viewing some fantastic Canadian films.

The first film that i watched was "How She Move", and I think it deserves two thumbs down!
There were no surprises here as it followed a typical dance movie plotline.. girl struggles to dance, dances for a cause and then somehow overcomes it and wins a dance competition of some sort to proove herself.
The most i can say is that the "step" was well choreographed, but i don't know much about dance. The acting was poorly done with an uneventful plotline.
What questions me the most is, what is with the name?! How she move.... shouldn't it mean How she moveS?? What.. did she only move once??
The only upside to seeing this movie was actually seeing the guest appearances from Tré Armstrong (who played Michelle) and Clé Bennett (who played Garvey). They had an interesting q&a session, and Mitch and Christian from our school happened to dance, and get interviewed from CTV.
I do not wish to have to sit through and rewatch another 94 minutes of this movie again.

The second film that i watched was "Fido". It was a very different movie from what we see in today's movie industry. It was a very dark comedy with a very original plot. I felt that i enjoyed this movie even more because of the disappointing "How She Move".
Also, it seemed that alot of time was spent preparing the set, making it the perfect 1940s neighbourhood. Fido was very appealing on the eyes as everything looked so crisp and clean (untill blood spills everywhere, that is). The dialogue was also very witty and appealing.
What i found hilarious was the way they treated death and violence in the movie, it was taken extremely lightly. This began very early in the movie when the kids of the elementary classroom was asked "How many of you have ever killed someone?" and those who have, responded in a raise of hands. Compared to reality this movie was the exact opposite of how our society functions. Violence and Death is feared and taken heavily!
I really enjoyed this movie and I hope that the rest of the movies featured in the film festival reaches the standards the Fido has set.
